I downloaded Just Be with Bizzy Beeby Hilary Hawkes because I’m interested in learning to practice mindfulness meditation. Although I’ve only had limited exposure to the subject, I decided to compare this children’s book to what I’ve read elsewhere. This book is an excellent tool to teach children how to recognize the differences in their emotions and calm to themselves when needed. The mindfulness/relaxation technique included at the back of the book was quite helpful. Parents might want to try this to at night to help their children fall asleep, as well.
The concepts are presented in a picture book format, but I highly recommend this book for people of all ages. If we’d all take several deep breaths and calm ourselves, the world might be a much nicer place.
I. M. Frightful Story of Water Witchby Dvora Swickleis a picture book great for Halloween, but also carries a valuable message that can be taught throughout the year. Ian learns that his family needs a dowser to find a new well, but he is not listening carefully. As he shares this information with friends, the tale morphs, and Ian is afraid his house will be flooded by the water witch. As he relays the story to his friends, with each telling, Ian becomes more terrified.
Butterfiles: Miniature Beauties of the World by Reno’s Mom
Butterflies: Miniature Beauties of the World is both educational and beautiful. It takes the reader through the caterpillar to butterfly life cycle. The gorgeous pictures of butterflies are simply breathtaking. Kudos to the photographer for having the patience to wait for these lovely pictures. I loved the respect for nature and easy conversational style used to present the information.
